Jodie was born and raised in Spokane, WA. and graduated from Lewis and Clark
High School. She received her Master's Degree in Psychology from Antioch
University Seattle in 2002. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The
Evergreen State College in Olympia and an Associate of Arts Degree from
Highline Community College. Jodie is
certified as a Protect Allergic Children (PAC) Consultant through the ELL
Foundation, Inc. In addition, she is also an Anaphylaxis Community Expert (ACES)
which is a partnership program developed and hosted by Allergy & Asthma
Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) and the American College of Allergy,
Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) – made possible by Dey Pharma, LP. The mission of
an ACES community member is to prevent anaphylaxis deaths and reduce anxieties
through education, advocacy and outreach by working closely with local
allergist Dr. Gower of Marycliff Allergy
Specialists.
Jodie has been asked to serve on the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis
Network (FAAN) Support Group Advisory Council. This Council will consist of
very proactive leaders throughout the country that will be the key contact
leaders within their regions. Jodie was invited to serve on the Support
Group Advisory Council because of her leadership skills, commitment, and
support of FAAN.
Jodie has been dedicated to serving the
community in several different capacities. She is a trained marriage and family
therapist and mental health professional who was working in public mental
health until the birth of her first son. Jodie's professional history also
includes; intervention for children in crisis, foster care respite, at-risk
youth counseling with gang related youth, emergency services as a help line
phone volunteer, and advocacy for women and children who were homeless living
in a shelter.
Jodie is a wife and mother of two young sons with food allergies. When her
first son was diagnosed with severe and life threatening anaphylactic food
allergies in 2006 she shifted her focus to promoting awareness, providing
support, and advocating for children with allergies by forming the Spokane Food
Allergy Support Network in 2009.
